ThothX Meridian has been selected to join the European Space Agency Business Incubation Centre in Portugal (ESA BIC Portugal), following approval of its incubation proposal by the programme’s Tender Evaluation Board.
The project is focused on establishing a European capability for persistent monitoring and characterization of assets in geostationary and geosynchronous (GEO) orbits. At its core is the conversion of a large telecommunications antenna on São Miguel Island into a deep-space radar using ThothX technology already deployed and operated in Canada.
Alongside the radar infrastructure, ThothX Meridian plans to establish a dedicated data and communications capability in Ponta Delgada to support the provision of radar data and services to European customers. During the initial phase, the platform will use data collected by ThothX’s Canadian radar, transitioning to locally generated data once the Azores station becomes operational.
ESA BIC Portugal will support technology and business development, access to funding, R&D partnerships and engagement with the European space ecosystem. The programme also provides a framework for collaboration with scientific and technological partners in areas related to Space Domain Awareness and Space Traffic Management.
The selection provides ThothX Meridian with a structured platform from which to develop its European operations, combining the strategic Atlantic location of the Azores with existing infrastructure and proprietary deep-space radar technology.
