ThothX Meridian wins CASSINI Challenges prize for ISAR4GEO

ThothX Meridian has been named one of the winners of the 2024 CASSINI Challenges, receiving a €30,000 prize for its ISAR 4 GEO spacecraft imaging solution.

Selected among the ten winners of the Prototype Track, ISAR 4 GEO applies Inverse Synthetic Aperture Radar (ISAR) techniques to generate two-dimensional images of spacecraft operating in GEO.

Building on ThothX’s existing deep-space radar capabilities, the technology can provide additional information on spacecraft configuration and behaviour, complementing conventional detection and tracking data.

The concept has already been demonstrated using real observations of VIASAT-1, producing imagery in which the satellite’s main structures could be distinguished. Further development will focus on improving resolution and processing capabilities through advanced algorithms and artificial intelligence.

The CASSINI award supports the evolution of Earthfence towards more detailed characterization of objects in GEO, extending the information that radar observations can provide to satellite operators and institutional users.
